Milan is an amazing major European city, with so much to offer in terms of culture, food and fashion. However, our focus is more on football, which is also huge in Milan, with the San Siro home to Italian giants Internazionale and AC Milan. You can pay upon arrival or when you book online at this fantastic facility which offers locker rooms and showers, as well as bleachers to watch others play whilst you wait. The field is well lit so timing doesn’t matter if you have to work later and if you’re hungry after playing, you’re right in the centre of Milan so you can grab something to eat. Plus it’s owned by the municipality of Milan and run by PlayMore, a non-profit organisation, so it’s also a pretty good cause. Open: Mon-Fri 9am – 10pm, Sat 3-10pm, Sun 10am-1pm and 3-9pm. Cost: 50 euros per hour.

Palauno Giambellino – Largo Balestra 5, Milan. +39 02 4235448

This is perfect for those who love a variety of sports, as you can play 5, 6 and 7 a side, as well as beach volleyball and tennis, tennis and even do some climbing. There are three other Palauno sites around the city, but if you’re in South-West Milan then you should head here as the facilities are great since the football pitches have just been revamped. Plus, there’s a bar so you can head there afterwards for a few drinks with your mates. Open: Mon-Fri 10-12am, Sat-Sun 10am-9pm. Cost: 55 euros for outdoors, 70 euros for indoors (evening rate).

Santa Marcellina – Viale Certosa – Viale Espinasse 85, Milan. +39 338 7891168

Located in the Northern area of the city near the Portello district, Santa Marcellina is part of the great project ‘Un campo nel cortile’ (A field in the backyard). This project tries to build sport centres in less affluent neighbourhoods so, again, it’s a really good cause that you’re supporting by hiring this pitch. In terms of facilities, there are a couple of basketball and volleyball fields and a couple of 5 a side pitches and a 7 a side one. Football City – Piazza Tirana 17, Milan. +39 02 410315

Located in Piazza Tirana at the sports centre Dopo Lavoro delle Ferrovie where they have renovated a number of 5 a side grass fields, this is a great option also located in the South-West area of the city near the San Cristoforo station so it’s pretty easy to get to. There are both outdoor and indoor pitches so if the weather isn’t great then you can just rent a pitch inside to avoid the weather and it’s open until quite late so if you have to work late; then it’s not a problem. Open: Mon-Fri: 4pm-12am, Sat-Sun: 10am-1pm and 2-8pm. Cost: Between 60 euros and 100 euros depending on number of players and choice of field.

Centro Sportivo Franco Bettinelli – Via Lago di Nemi 31, Milan

Located in the Barona area, this institution boasts a variety of fantastic facilities. Not only do they have both indoor and outdoor fields, so again you can avoid the weather if need be, but also football schools, reserved parking and high quality changing rooms. This is one of the best sets of facilities for anyone wanting to play amateur or 5 a side football in Milan and is located in the relaxed area of Barona.
