Best Bars to Watch the World Cup in Barcelona

With the end of the Champion’s League season, football fans across the city of Barcelona are turning their attention to the World Cup. While only the most committed fans are able to travel to Russia to watch the games in person, Barcelona is home to many bars and pubs that create an exciting and vibrant match day atmosphere. Whether you are a local cheering for the likes of Iniesta, Busquets, Pique and the rest of La Roja or instead rooting for one of the other 31 countries, these bars are bound to maximize your match day experience.

7. Sonora Sport Tavern

The first thing noticed about Sonora Sport Tavern are the decorations creating a rustic tavern atmosphere. With multiple televisions spread throughout the restaurant, there is not a bad seat in the house. Sonora Sport Tavern offers different food specials every week, so following them on social media is the best way to keep track of the weekly specials. For those looking to keep the party going after the final whistle, Sonora Sport Tavern is located very close to Razzmatazz, one of Barcelona’s premier nightclubs, and the two establishments often offer promotions and discounts together. Carrer de Pamplona, 96.

6. Dow Jones Bar

Unlike the other sports bars on this list, the Dow Jones Bar is not a typical sports bar, but don’t let this fool you. Both the staff and customers are passionate football supporters, and with televisions scattered around the entire bar, there is no such thing as a bad seat. What sets the Dow Jones Bar apart is its ever-changing menu prices. Set up like the stock market, the drink prices fluctuate in real time depending on the bar’s supply and demand. Carrer de Bruc, 97.

5. Shenanigan’s

Shenanigan’s is a classic Irish pub that makes you feel like you took a portal straight to Dublin. Shenanigan’s offers a tight, intimate atmosphere allowing fans of all countries to bond together. Shenanigan’s food menu offers traditional Irish pies, and the Steak & Guinness pie is to die for. Perhaps Shenanigan’s biggest draw to watching a World Cup match here is unbeatable beer prices. A bucket of five beers only costs 7,50 euros, while the more adventurous groups will choose to go with a meter tall tower of beer. Carrer Del Marques de Barbera, 11.

4. CocoVail Beer Hall

The newest restaurant in this countdown, CocoVail Beer Hall was founded in August 2016 and modeled after American and Argentinian beer halls and breweries. 24 craft beers are offered on tap, with most of them from local breweries. To eat, CocoVail has some of the best wings in all of Barcelona, and if that’s not enough the chocolate chip pizookie is the best way to end a meal. CocoVail has large communal style seating, making it the perfect place to bring a large group or meet fellow supporters of your team. Carrer d’Arago, 284.

3. La Ovella Negra

If you are going to La Ovella Negra for one of the more popular matches of the World Cup, be prepared to stand the full 90 minutes. La Ovella Negra has a giant dining hall that fills up wall to wall with the most passionate supporters. Fans of Argentina are known to fill up the hall during their games, creating an atmosphere those in Buenos Aires would be jealous of. In addition to the game, La Ovella Negra boasts a cocktail menu with every drink less than five euros, and for the bigger groups it offers a five liter beer “cube” for only 26 euros. With some of the lowest prices in Barcelona and the festive atmosphere, La Ovella Negra is tough to beat. Carrer de Zamora, 78.

2. George Payne Irish Bar

The second Irish bar on the list, the George Payne Irish Bar fills up well before the games start, leaving only standing room for supporters. George Payne offers a rowdy party atmosphere to watch the games in, with fans expressing all of their emotions. This bar has some of the most inexpensive drinks on this list, including the “Barcelona Blackout Tray.” For only 20 euros, this tray entails two sangrias, two sex on the beaches, two shots of jaeger, tequila, sambucca, and one carafe of vodka with a Red Bull. With a young party atmosphere, the George Payne Irish Bar is the perfect place to watch a match in the World Cup. Placa d’Urquinaona, 5.

1. Belushi’s

Number one on this list is Belushi’s. While others above on this list offer a passionate watching atmosphere and others create more of a party atmosphere, Belushi’s offers the best of both worlds. Belushi’s venue has multiple outdoor areas featuring ping pong, foosball, billiards, and a fan favorite beer pong. However, once the games start, all attention is turned to the multiple televisions and three new projectors Belushi’s has set up around the venue. Additionally, Belushi’s plays the games with English commentary, making it a popular destination for English and American supporters. Like a few of the others above, be prepared to stand in a crowd of passionate supporters for the full 90 minutes. At Belushi’s for the smaller games, there is a five euro cover charge that includes one drink, while the bigger games cost ten euros but include two drinks. Carrer de Pamplona, 96.
