Across the world, recent trends have moved towards a more mobile and remote system of working, allowing you to set up your workspace just about anywhere and for as long as you’d want. In this respect, Barcelona is up there among the cities with a significant number of blooming start-ups and freelance workers establishing themselves in recent years.

The city now offers a whole host of co-working places to work from, but we understand if you’re among those who would prefer the solitude or the friendly vibes offered by a café – aside from excellent coffee, of course. So, to make it easy for you, here’s a list of the best laptop-friendly cafés in Barcelona.

1. Robot House

Robot House is hardly an ordinary café, so it’s a great place for us to start with. In their own words, “Robot House is a creative space for social good… It is a space designed to encourage creativity and interdisciplinary thinking.” Complete with specialty coffee, a unique menu brought together by local produce, and spacious interiors, the owners have sought to create something truly special for their customers.

The place exudes a peaceful vibe, welcoming loads of natural light and plants dotting the floor. And if you like working with a bit of sun and breeze for company, then their recently opened terrace space may do just the trick for you! If Robot House gets a little busy during lunch, it is only because of their fantastic menu and warm service. What’s more, those of you with pets are free to bring them along as they’re pet-friendly too!

Robot House is located in l’Eixample, just a few minutes on foot from the Diagonal Metro, so if you’re in the area, looking for a place to cram some quick work in, be sure to check them out!

A deal with the devil may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but when there’s coffee on the line, can you really blame us? Well, the place may not be as sinister as the name suggests, but Satan’s Coffee Corner, sure knows its beverage inside out. Established by Marcos Bartolomé, who was born into a family of coffee-makers, the café is known for some of the best coffee in Barcelona.

Aside from collaborating with Right Side Coffee and El Magnifico, two of Barcelona’s best-known coffee roasters, Satan’s has made a mark on the culinary side as well. Sample their variety of Japanese inspired breakfast options and rest assured, you won’t be disappointed.

This is Satan’s Coffee Corner’s second outlet in the city after their first branch in Gótico. The café is housed inside the hotel, Casa Bonay in Gran Via, a short walk away from the Placa de Tetuan.

Bright and cozy, this vegetarian café is the perfect destination for vegans with a whole host of options to choose from. 5. La Esquina

La Esquina Barcelona

This delightful establishment emerged from what used to be the breakfast room at Hotel Regina. Named after its corner location at the intersection of Bergara and Balmes, La Esquina defies its geography quite significantly. British influence pervades the place, with chef Alan Stewart in the kitchen and London barista, Louis overseeing the beverage department.

The décor is authentic and comfortably avoids fitting into trends and types. While it isn’t a café in the conventional sense, La Esquina is quite laptop-friendly, as long as you’re mindful of the time. You’ll discover a wide-ranging menu that offers breakfast to dinner options and everything in between.

La Esquina is easy to access, located just minutes away from the Universitat subway station as well as the Placa de Catalunya.

Now, this is one of those places that speaks poignantly for its neighbourhood. Trendy and sleek, Caravelle caters to the young and energetic in el Raval. A brewery, great international cuisine, and fine coffee sourced from the popular Nømad, only add to the soulful vibe offered by this little café-restaurant.

Even though the place gets fairly crowded on most days, the buzz is not overpowering and makes this place a real pleasure to work from. Eggs Benedict is a popular recommendation here, while most menu items are prepared with home-made or locally sourced ingredients.

If you’re planning to visit, make sure you’re early as the place tends to fill up fast during peak hours. Caravelle is conveniently located, just a few minutes on foot from the Liceu subway station.

7. Black Remedy

This hip café was born in 2016 out of Jesus and Damian Ascaso’s passion for specialty coffee and gastronomy and a desire to combine the two in a unique and lively environment. Located in one of Barcelona’s oldest neighbourhoods, the New York styled interiors lie in sharp contrast to the streets outside. Hints of industrial décor and a neat layout make this an excellent laptop-friendly café to work out of.

The Acasos have mastered the art of slow cooking meats and present an enticing menu of burgers, sandwiches, and other items to choose from. Pair this with one of their unbeatable, locally-sourced micro-roasted coffees and you are all set for the day!

Black Remedy is easily accessible, housed just three minutes away from the Barcelona Cathedral on the Carrer de la Ciutat.
